There’s been a lot of talk about vision boards or dream boards and you can be forgiven for thinking it must be just some touchy- feely mumbo-jumbo only fit for poor feeble-minded fools who’ll believe anything. Well, you may be surprised to learn that not all people who create vision boards are feeble-minded or foolish. In fact, some are pretty smart. Some even achieve their goals. Not because they created a vision board, but because they were willing to go through the process.
Here are 5 things you will definitely gain from this process. Who knows, it could change your life.
1. Clarity
When our dreams, hopes and aspirations are unclear we can very easily lose our way in the resultant haze. This is one of the most common reasons why goals are not achieved. Without clarity, we are simply stumbling around hoping that we’re going the right way. Unfortunately, very often we are not and so we don’t end up doing the things we would have liked to do. Part of the process involved in putting together a vision board is that you have to think about what you actually want and consider how to create a visual representation of this, using the every-day materials at your disposal. This process forces you to drill down to the essence of your dream and together with some of the strategies we teach imparts a good dose of much needed clarity. When you have taken the time to fully think about what you want, it’s a lot easier to “yes” when things start happening. A healthy dose of clarity of purpose goes a long way to ensuring your success because you’ll be able to know whether or not your choices will move you closer to or further from your goals.
2. Personalised Inspiration
A vision board is your own, personalised mirror of your hopes and dreams. When placed in a prominent position in your home or your office it serves as a constant visual reminder of the road you have chosen. It is something tangible created by you to represent something which is not yet tangible, but with focus and intentional goal-directed action can be. Harness the power of selective attention by using your vision board to counter the many visual distractions we encounter every day. Visual distractions like television, advertisements, magazines and newspapers, smartphones, steal an enormous amount of our time and don’t necessarily encourage us toward our goals. Why not look at your vision board instead? Your vision board makes a statement and really puts your aspirations for yourself out there. You can either be intimidated by this or you can be motivated, inspired and encouraged by it. You choose.
3. Intentional Accountability
As well as being motivating, your vision can also hold you accountable and support some of the tough decisions you’ll no doubt need to make in order to achieve your goals. If you're finding a decision hard, run it by your vision to see if it's taking you closer or further way. It depends how serious you are about moving forward. Success is not for the faint-hearted and it can seem easier to settle for our present level of discomfort or dis-ease as I like to call it. Creating a vision board and talking about it is a bit like putting yourself on the line. It might be uncomfortable to start with but taking intentional responsibility for your actions and their outcomes can be just what you need. Don’t be a secret agent of success. Succeed on purpose. Be accountable to yourself. After all, it’s your life. Make the most of it. Make every opportunity count. Creating a vision board can prove quite meaningful in the end.
4. Overcome Obstacles
Setting time aside to think about your goals will no doubt reveal some obvious obstacles and reasonable and unreasonable objections may well threaten to scupper your plans for personal and other improvement. One of the great advantages of creating your vision board in a group setting is that you have the opportunity to talk about it and get input from others who may have had to face the same obstacles in the past. Learning to identify legitimate challenges and barriers is all important. Learning to overcome them will leave you stronger and wiser. An experienced coach is on hand to offer support and wisdom if needed.
5. New Hope
Setting out your goals on a vision board not only clears away the murkiness but has the potential to bring new energy and enthusiasm to your personal situation because very suddenly you can see how the right steps can help you to reach your goals. And so, hope is born. Hope is the thing that will help you to see possibilities instead of problems. It will open your mind and your heart to not merely wonder, “Can I do this?”, but ask with eagerness, “How can I do this?” Remember, if you think you can’t – you’re right and if you think you can, you’re right too. Not been hopeful in a long time? Don’t worry, hope can be rekindled. It will appear and it will grow, as you start strategizing to eliminate and navigate around your obstacles, and as your issues are put in perspective, hope will flourish. It must because even though we don’t feel it- it is always there.
So, there you have it! 5 reasons you should create a vision board. Our Vision Board Workshop will give you a quick push to help you re-align yourself to your goals. Still sceptical? Remember it’s not simply about the board, it’s about the process you go through to create the board. It’s about the encouragement, the company and the information you receive and it’s about rediscovering what you want your life to be about. It’s about redefining and creating goals that are congruent with your values and beliefs. It’s about being authentic. It’s about being brave enough to be the best version of you possible- on purpose. Yes, you can be intentional about being better- much better.

Then the Lord answered me and said:
“Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
